Icehotel
Every winter, blocks of ice are cut from the Torne River and the hotel is built again from nothing. In spring it melts back into the river. The cycle has run since 1989.
Artists are chosen each year to design individual art suites, so no two seasons look the same. Beds are covered in reindeer hides and thermal sleeping bags, and the rooms are kept at roughly minus five to minus eight degrees. Warm rooms and cabins are available nearby for the rest of the stay. Icehotel 365, a permanent building cooled by solar power, keeps ice suites and an ice bar open all year. Kiruna airport is a short transfer away.
